What skills are involved?
The course builds on the knowledge, understanding and process skills that you achieved in GCSE Science and Additional Science. You will need to be able to communicate effectively; be able to carry out research, work independently and critically think about problems. Good practical skills are also important as Chemistry is a very practical subject.
You have to want to learn factual information – this is extremely important.
Career Pathways
At university level – chemical engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, biological sciences, environmental science, pharmacy, dentistry and teaching.
Other courses that include Chemistry are for example: Sports Science, Pharmacology, Forensic Science and Toxicology.
Many employers view success in Chemistry as a clear indication of sound academic ability. Chemistry can be used for many careers including the Stock Market, Law and Media Industries.
Straight into work – Laboratory Technician, Dental Assistant, Science Journalism, Phlebotomy, retail, Hair and beauty consultancy.
