Assessment Modules for AS
Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre  40% internally assessed Practical assessment and coursework portfolio
You will learn how to analyse plays in a variety of ways so that you become familiar with the way plays can be interpreted for realisation in performance.   You will explore two contrasting play texts, in a practical and active way.   A set of Exploration Notes must be submitted.   You will also be required to experience a live theatre performance and submit a written evaluation.

Unit 2: Theatre Text in Performance    60% externally assessed.
This unit offers students the chance to demonstrate skills in a performance environment.   The first section requires that you offer a monologue or duologue.   The second section requires you to contribute to a performance of a professionally published play.   You may choose to be assessed for either acting or design.

Assessment Modules for A2
Unit 3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance  40% internally assessed Practical
    assessment and written coursework.
This unit requires the creation of a unique and original piece of theatre.   You will be assessed on both the process of creation and the finished product in the form of a performance to an invited audience. You will also be expected to complete a written evaluation of both the process and the performance.

Unit 4: Theatre Text in Context   60% externally assessed
A two and a half hour written examination requiring the detailed study of one set play text and one prescribed historical period of theatrical development.

Course Expectations
A Level Drama and Theatre Studies is a very demanding but rewarding course.   You will need to be dedicated, committed, hardworking, reliable, punctual and, above all, creative.   You must be prepared to co-operate practically in groups, and to give freely of your time outside of normal lessons.   You will also be expected to take part in regular theatre visits after school as an essential part of the course.   You will need to read a range of plays and critical works independently.

AS/A2 Skills
This course should develop your:
• ability to form judgements about live theatre based on your understanding of drama and theatre.
• performance and/or production skills appropriate to the creation and realisation of drama and theatre.
• ability to work creatively and collaboratively to achieve shared dramatic intentions.
• ability to respond to plays imaginatively, conveying ideas clearly and coherently.
• ability to think independently, make judgments and refine your work in the light of research.

Career Pathways
This course can lead to further study in Drama, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts in Higher Education at degree or HND level.   It can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead to a career in the creative or performing arts industries.
