Key Stage 3 ICT – DiDA
Module 1 aims
This module shows you how to produce a set of web pages. It will include how to add graphics, sound and navigation links to your website. You will research background information to “Make Space Clubs” and add this information to your website. You will then research activities that are available to young people in the area, you will create a questionnaire to help you with this. You will then design a questionnaire to ascertain what activities young people would like in the area. You will than collate and analyse the results to these questionnaires and add your findings to your website.
By the end of this assignment, you should be able to:
Use web design software to produce a set of web pages with details about your research.
Add sound clips and graphics.
Design a questionnaire for your use by your peers that is suitable for analysis using a spreadsheet.
Analyse a questionnaire and summarise the main findings.
Modify your presentation for a different audience.

Your initial plans for your website, with annotations showing possible improvements
Your website containing your research findings.

You will be practicing writing for different audiences. You will also start to look at writing formal reports and including technical vocabulary in your writing. ICT is a very skills-based subject. You will learn about and improve your knowledge and use of web design software, word processing and spreadsheet software.

Your homeworks will include some of the following:
Collecting pictures and sound effects or sound clips to add to your presentation
Evaluating your work in order to help you improve it
Assessment: Effort
In order to gain an effort grade 1 you will need to be up to date with your work, complete all homeworks on time and to a good standard. In class you will need to concentrate on your work and try your best in all aspects of the work.
Assessment: Attainment
You will be assessed at the end of the module mainly on the website which you produce. To do well, you will be expected to use the information and techniques suggested in the module to produce an effective website which will include graphics and sound. Your planning and evaluation will also form part of your assessment.
Working Towards the required standard:
You will be awarded this if you produce a basic website with very little evidence of things such as appropriate pictures, changing text properties, adding sound and self evaluation.
Working at the required standard
You will need to complete a presentation which shows that you are able to combine a variety of media (pictures, sound, textual effects), that you are self critical about your work and use self evaluation to help you improve it.
Working beyond the required standard
You will need to produce a quality piece of work: You will need to complete all of the above to be awarded this level. In addition, your website must show an awareness of the intended audience i.e. clearly aimed at your classmates with appropriate graphics and sounds.
Module 2 aims
This module shows you how to produce a set of web pages. It will include how to add graphics, sound and navigation links to your website. You will import a text file containing details of many youth activities into a database. You will set the correct field types and lengths and you will set up some basic validation to remove invalid records. You will create a form to add some new records of your own and then create some queries and reports to help others to find relevant information. You will then add all this information to you website created earlier.
By the end of this assignment, you should be able to:
Use web design software to produce a set of web pages with details about your research.
Import a text file into a database.
Set up suitable fieldnames, types and lengths.
Create a form to add information to a database.
Create queries and reports to find and display relevant information.
Major outcomes - Work to be handed in:
Your database table containing the imported text file.
Evidence to show the fieldnames, types and lengths of the data imported.
Evidence to show validation rules applied.
Evidence to show a suitable data entry form.
Evidence of suitable queries and reports.

Key Stage 3 ICT – DiDA D201
Module 5 aims
This module and the next is where you bring together all your individual pieces of work for final submission for the first module of the DiDA qualification. You will produce a set of web pages containing graphics, sound, text and navigation. You will add your findings from your original surveys, your spreadsheets and charts showing, your imported database, table details, validation details and database reports. Also included will be your newsletter, Information Point with commentaries on each item as well as a self evaluation.
By the end of this assignment, you should be able to:
Use web design software to produce a set of web pages.
Add various documents in a suitable format (jpg, pdf, html, swf)
Major outcomes - Work to be handed in:
A initial investigation into activities in the area.
Three activities not available locally at present and how these were selected.
A major survey of 40 people to select one of the above.
A spreadsheet showing the results of the above survey, with charts to illustrate the findings.
Details of the table used to import the external text file, showing field names, types, lengths and validation used.
Details of records lost in validation and reasons why.
Five records of your own choice added using a form created by yourself.
Four reports based on queries of the above table.
An 8 page newsletter for the local “Make Space Club”
An Information Point for use in the local club.
Critiques and self evaluation for each document above.

You will need to complete your website to include all the information listed above in a suitable format and adhering to examination board requirements.

You will need to produce a quality piece of work: You will need to complete all of the above to be awarded this level. In addition, your website will show considerable design skills and each item with be fully annotated and evaluated.
