Mathematics Introduction
The Department has seven rooms in close proximity and is well resourced. Each classroom has internet access, ceiling mounted computer projectorsand an interactive white board.
The six forms of entry are divided into eight sets with two sets expected to follow through to the higher paper at GCSE. Standards of attainment in mathematics at the end of both Key Stages 3 and 4 are above national expectations. At Key Stage 3 the percentage of pupils reaching Level 5 is well above the figures for similar schools nationally and has been increasing over recent years. At GCSE the number of pupils gaining grades A*- C is well above the national figure. The proportion of pupils entered for mathematics GCSE is also very high when compared with similar schools. Very few pupils complete their Year 11 with no qualification in mathematics.
Post 16 students are well motivated, enthusiastic and achieve above expectations. Students who re-take their GCSE examination to improve their grades also achieve good results.
Mathematics is taught in sets throughout the school. At Key Stage 4 we follow Edexcel 1385 Higher, Intermediate and Foundation Courses.
