Why is it Useful?
• It will develop your oral, written and practical skills.
• It will help you develop a feel for number, carry out calculations and understand the results obtained.
• It will help develop your ability to think logically and apply mathematics to everyday situations.
• It will help you use mathematics as a way of communicating and to apply your mathematical knowledge to other subjects, particularly Science and Technology.
• You must have Mathematics GCSE at Grade C or above to be accepted at University, whatever the degree course you choose.
HIGHER TIER is based on the COLLINS HIGHER GCSE TEXT. Pupils will cover National Curriculum Levels 5, 6, 7 and 8, which correspond to GCSE Grades A*, A, B, C and D.
FOUNDATION TIER is based on COLLINS FOUNDATION GCSE TEXT. Pupils will cover National Curriculum Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6, which correspond to GCSE Grades C, D, E, F and G.
Most importantly, Mathematics will involve hard work and a great deal of enjoyment. You will need a scientific calculator for the course.
What about coursework?
There is no longer any coursework involved in Mathematics GCSE.
Studying this subject could lead to...
• A/S and A2 Level Mathematics in the Sixth Form. However, you must have Mathematics GCSE at Grade B or above in order to study at this level.
• a career in accountancy, banking, business, teaching....the list is endless!
