Upper School

CITIZENSHIP AND PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH AND ECONOMIC EDUCATION

Why is it useful?
Both Citizenship and Personal, Social and Health Education help you relate to a whole set of value systems vital to yourself, the world, and everyone else around you. It helps you to highlight your strengths and build on them, recognise your weaknesses and limitations, and devise strategies to overcome them.
In your lessons, usually with your Form Tutors, you will learn about these values and attitudes through the study of topics related to self-image, aspirations for the future, social competencies, bodily self-understanding, religion and religious issues, sexual self, social self, vocation, moral self and their place within the School and society.

What does it involve?

The course provides an opportunity for you to explore your opinions, ideas and feelings as you study self-esteem, self-worth, alcohol, drugs and relationships within a religious framework. During lessons there will be opportunities for discussion, small group work and role-play. A major part of the Upper School curriculum is Careers; an essential area of study as you prepare for work experience and future applications for Sixth Form, University and beyond. Visiting speakers from Connexions will offer advice on careers. You may also have speakers from the Army, Police Force, National Health Service and the world of business.

What about coursework?

There is no coursework as such for Citizenship and P.S.H.E. but you are required to keep a record of the work you do, both for your own reference and for assessment purposes.
